New England Traditions is the theme of the 1997 COAI Convention, April 15 -20, in Massachusetts.
New England is renowned for the splendor of its changing seasons and no where are these more spectacular than here in Central Massachusetts. This region offers a wide variety of entertainment and recreational opportunities for all ages.
The South Shore Joeys Alley 159A is absolutely delighted to be your host for the '97 Convention.
The Convention Committee has been working long and hard over the past year to bring to you the best of the best in clowning for the beginner as well as the experienced clown. Our workshops, lectures, entertainment, and dealers have been designed to meet your every need and taste.
For the first time ever, our convention has its own web site thanks to Dana "Cheesecake" Montgomery. He has become the Webmaster for our official web site where people from around the world can find out information about the convention and even register on-line. So if your out "surfing the web", check it out at: http://www.channel1.com/users/dmontgom/ssconv.htm, or contact our registration chairperson, Barbara "Barbie Doll" Kelleher, who is now accepting convention registrations.
Now just a little bit about the Host Hotel. Nestled in a picturesque Mew England countryside on the shores of Cedar Lake, the Sturbridge Host Hotel and Conference Center is the perfect setting for our convention. It has 241 guest rooms, including 75 with fireplaces, a lake-front beach, indoor pool and whirlpool. Steamers Grille, Oxhead Tavern, and the Greenhouse Restaurant featuring breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a casual or formal setting. Within walking distance, we have McDonald's, Friendly's, Burger King, and a quaint Bagel Shop.
To reserve your hotel room, call (800) 582-3232 or (508) 347-7393 and be sure to tell them you are with the COAI Clown Convention for that special rate of $69.00, single or double, $94.00 triple, or $119.00 for a quad.
For those planning to travel by air, Continental is the official airlines for the 1997 convention. To receive a discount over the regular rate, call for reservations using reference "RE: Z code ZJWF reference code NRCESL", flight destination - Bradley International Airport in Hartford, CT. We strongly advise using only this location for your arrival and departure. Please note the shuttle service will only pick up at Bradley International, Hartford, CT. Call Continental today at (800) 468-7022 to reserve your rate.
Just across the street from the Host Hotel is the internationally famous Old Sturbridge Village. You can explore anytime during the week. Early America in the 1830's is recreated in this rural New England community. With more than 40 restored structures on 200 acres, this is the largest outdoor museum in the northeast. You can chat with the blacksmith mending an axe, the farmer yoking his oxen, or women baking bread in a beehive fireplace oven. Please remember to check it off on your registration form so you can get the group rate.
For you early birds, on Monday, April 14, 1997, we are planning a day trip to the Worcester Common Fashion Outlet, the largest, most exciting designer outlet mall featuring well-known names like Saks of Fifth Avenue, Barneys of New York, Sports Authority, Bass, London Fog, Jockey, Joan and Avid Polo, Maidenform, Filenes Basement, and a fabulous food court. It's the complete cosmopolitan shopping experience.
Then we'll be off to visit Nashoba Valley Winery for a tour and tasting and you get to bring home a commemorative wine glass. Nashoba Valley Winery has earned Gold, Silver, Bronze, and state champion awards at international wine competitions. Their Gold Medal Raspberry Wine is an intense surprisingly tart wine that could sway many chocolate lovers or their Cyser Honey Apple Wine, semisweet, crisp and spicy, is a traditional colonial white wine made from apples and honey. Please check it off on your registration form.
Please remember that our lectures start on Tuesday, April 15, 1997 at 3:00 p.m. Ground transportation information will be mailed with your registration confirmation.
Buying an advertisement in the 1997 COAI Convention program book is easy. Just send your camera ready ad by February 1, 1997. It will be seen and remembered. A great prize will be given out to the best ad we receive. So don't delay, you could be missing out. Send to Donna "Smiles" Reisberg, 1399 Quincy Shore Drive, Quincy, MA 02169.
